LARGE BURLY LOGS,
TO SMALLER DECORATIVE TIMBERS.
When a meaningful or sentimental tree tragically dies or falls, Please do not chop and burn the wood. Renaissance Design recycles those beautiful logs. Mike transforms them into authentically unique pieces of furniture, decor, memorials or art for you to share and enjoy for years to come.
Bring your lumber to us, or we can bring the saw mill to you for custom cut slabs and timber, dried to perfection in one of three kilns. Finishing work in the shop can be commissioned, cooperative, coached or done-by-you.

On-Site Lumber Inventory
Renaissance Design Group is consistently preparing lumber all year round. Species on hand may include: Hickory, Red Oak, White Oak, Elm, Pine, Spruce, Cedar, Ash, Tamarak, Teak, Black Walnut and more… Inventory is turning over weekly, the best way to check our inventory is to give us a call or send us a lumber request.
Two Wood Drying Kilns
Renaissance Design Group has two lumber kilns. The first is indoors in a controlled environment. It is heated and equipped with dehumidification. Drying lumber up to 9 feet in length. The second is a solar kiln that operates eight months out of the year and will dry longer 14-foot slabs. *FYI: Planing lumber up to 25-inches wide & 12-feet long.
Wood or Log Recycling
Trees are such a valuable resource! When they die, or must be taken down it’s all too easy to burn them. Why not turn them into furniture? It can be difficult and expensive to rent a bobcat, a trailer and haul it away yourself. We do not take the trees down, but once on the ground, we can pick it up with our hoisted trailer and bring it back to the sawmill for milling. Maybe it is firewood or maybe it is meant for more. Call and ask Mike. Even if you do not need the log, perhaps we may buy it, depending on demand.

Epoxy Services & Mentorship
There is an art and style required to applying great epoxy. Like bodywork on a your vehicle, these projects require a professional approach. An entire project can possibly be ruined if the product is applied incorrectly. Renaissance Design specializes in epoxy application and will offer coaching and mentorship to those who want to learn or may be troubleshooting a botched application in a DIY.

I just got a call from a gentleman that has a 30 ft long white oak log. It is 30" in diameter on the wide end. When he felled it, it split right down the middle from one end to the other. He is wondering (before he turns it into firewood) does anyone want to buy this???? It's about 50 minutes NW of St. Cloud. I'm sure the chainsaw will be fired up if i don't get back to him quick. Reach out to me if you are in need of something like this. ... See MoreSee Less

Yesterday the Veterinarian took our third X-ray of Lollypops chest to see if the pneumonia had cleared up. Bad news was upon clearing up of the pneumonia, we are left with a round mass in her right lung that is larger than her heart, and is pressing up against her heart, and likely reducing her lung capacity. Choice(s) were to send this image to a radiology specialist.........If he says your vet is right..........the location of the mass & it's size wouldn't be operable anyway. We don't know if it will grow or not. All we know is this is probably what made her prone to quickly getting pneumonia. We can now quit taking the antibiotics. The doc said that often steroids can help to reduce inflammation. Now I just will pet her, watch her more closely and hope that she has time.........No way of knowing if this is cancer or not. As noted, if it's cancer......nothing to do anyway. Thus.......just make her comfortable, and loved. I thank each of you for the love, and support for Lolly and myself. She will be turning 8 on Valentines Week. I've got her scheduled for a Glamour day at a groomer next Monday. She feels good....and has no clue that she has this problem in her chest. ... I'm often asked about the hardness of different types of woods. Usually i get asked.........is XXX a hardwood, or a softwood. Trees with leaves are hardwoods. Take note of the first species on this list below, it's cottonwood which is a hardwood......yet it's the softest wood on this list!!!!! Heart Pine is almost twice as hard, yet it's a softwood. ... I'm often asked.......do you want my tree? and how much would you pay for it? I'll try to condense the answer. If you want your tree to be recycled by a sawmill, then it needs to be cut at the right length, and not be hollow, rotten, or full of hardware (clothes line hangers, bird house nails, etc.) The proper length is 100 inches. I only pick up exceptional quality trees, or substantial quantity that you have the ability to load. After your trees are cut @ 100" the narrow end of the log needs to be 10" diameter or larger. Any branches must be cut flush with the tree. The amount that I pay will be discounted if the trees are full of dirt, mud, rocks or are cut too short. Purchase price is based on the use of the Doyle Log Rule Scale, and the species of lumber. I have too much red oak, so i'm choosey and don't buy too many. I buy Black Walnut, White Oak, Red Cedar, White Pine. (as well as many others...........but these are the woods that my customers tend to purchase the most often. I do offer trailers so you can get the logs here. Two of my trailers have winches that will help you to load, but a skid steer with forks is by far easier, and keeps you from dragging your logs through the dirt. When this happens, stop at your car wash before bringing them here please. Price varies based on species, and i watch the DNR logging website which provides industry standard pricing for the logging industry. The price offered is always delivered to me. If i pick up, i need to adjust downward what I pay. If you wish to see a more detailed list on how to prepare logs prior to bringing them to my sawmill, just send me an email at MikeFanslau@Gmail.com ... See MoreSee Less

Does the underside of a table matter? Take note of how the frame that the table is resting on is secured. I don't buy $350 legs and screw them on. I can't speak to the cost on this one, as my client's father in law built it. I did install the steel c-channels which are slotted, and then routed into the top with 1/4" bolts which bolt to the threaded inserts. The table must be allowed to move and flex slightly so I put slots instead of round holes to bolt through. This particular table was 46.5" x 8 foot. Is made from spalted maple and a blue toned epoxy to match the tile backsplash in the kitchen. ... See MoreSee Less

This is the type of support system I've been building for epoxy and live edge tables. No issues of warping or cracking.
YES it matters greatly. If the square openings are where screws attach it to the top, then they should have and over sized hole drilled in the steel and a fender washer and screw to attach. OR a slotted opening to allow for the wood movement as you referenced. If the attachment of legs to the top do not allow for seasonal movement, the wood will split under the stress.
All of my table bases have a fully welded rectangle frame to maintain table top flatness
C channels are the way to go 👍🏻
